Alistair Nicholas Biography

I have more than 35 years of experience in government and corporate affairs covering Australia, North America, China, Asia and the Pacific. The past 20 years were spent in senior advisory roles with international consulting companies Edelman and Weber Shandwick/Powell Tate, including 13 years living and working in Beijing. In particular I have advised foreign companies on doing business in China and I have advised Chinese organisations on doing business in Western countries, including in relation to financial market listings and foreign investment approvals.

Among my past clients, I count Global Fortune 500 companies, sovereign wealth funds, Chinese State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) and China's leading private companies, national governments and their embassies, multilateral institutions, small and medium sized companies, and non-government organisations including industry associations and charities.

My consultancy work includes government relations,  reputation management, stakeholder engagement, public relations, media relations, and issues and crisis management.

My early career included policy research and journalism, international trade policy and political advice to Australia's Federal Coalition, and diplomacy including as Australia's Trade Commissioner to the World Bank and United Nations.

One of the things I believe in strongly is giving back to society. My current voluntary roles include being a member of the College Council of Warrane College at the University of New South Wales, and a member of the Private Sector Advisory Panel to the China Business Research Network of Macquarie University.

My qualifications include a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) from the University of New South Wales and a Certificate in Executive Leadership from Cornell University.
